The Mumbai police have arrested a man named Amit Warik for threatening and blackmailing two popular television actors. The ordeal started 10 days back when he demanded a sum ofRs. 20 lakh from both of these artists and threatened to viral a video if they refused to pay up.
Few days back, there were reports about small screen actors Karan Patel and Ritvik Dhanjani landing in trouble for passing objectionable comments on national heroes as well as India’s Constitution. Adding more to it, both of these actors were blackmailed by an unknown guy stating that, he has the video and if they do not give him the money, he will circulate the video.
Both Ritvik and Karan with the help of their close friend, Karan Singh who is the president of SMMARDS NGO made the man arrested red handed on 21st June evening.
In an interview with Daily Bhaskar.com, Karan Singh says, “There were wrong reports circulated in the media about the video. Ritivik and Karan were not making fun in front of the camera. It was just a fun moment between them and the crew members. Someone made a video out of it and wanted to encash out of it. We stay in a democratic country and everyone has right to speak up their views. Everything was off the camera.”
Talking more about the blackmailing incident, Karan says, “A person named Amit Warik was threatening Karan and Ritvik for the last 10 days. They both are like brothers to me and I wanted to help them out in every possible manner. Finally, we planned to trap this person with the help of Mumbai police. I accepted Amit’s proposal and asked him to collect the money from me. He believed me and as soon as he reached the venue; he was arrested by the police.”
The FIR has been registered at Aarey police station, Mumbai.
Both Ritvik and Karan remained unavailable for the comments.
